Weatherproofing Sliding Doors

Aside from drapes, you can also make use of insulated blinds as a second barrier.

Another option would be to buy and install a sliding door insulation kit. Sliding door or patio door insulation kits usually come with a large sheet of plastic and some tape that you can use to stick the plastic on to the door frame. After attaching the plastic sheet on the door, you can then use a blow dryer to shrink the sheet in place. This would make sure that you would have a clear view. You need to remember, however, that this option would leave your door inaccessible.

You can also make use of removable caulk during the winter and then just remove it once the temperature goes up again. This method would also prohibit you from using the sliding doors; however, it can do wonders in lowering your heating bills.

If you are on a budget, there are also several methods that you can try. One would be hanging a blanket over the sliding door; you just need to make sure that you would be securing it in all the corners. If there are any obvious gaps, you can make use of a butter knife to place some tissue paper in them. Lastly, you can place some rolled towels at the bottom of the door to prevent drafts from getting in.
