Elegant Staircase Components Add Style

Remember the old movies where the heroine sweeps down an elegant staircase, pausing dramatically on the landing for all to admire her?  Not many of us have the space to have that kind of staircase in our homes.  If you have a second story or a basement, however, you can still have an elegant staircase through the use of custom stiles, banisters, and other parts.

Custom posts add a nice touch while holding up the banister and keeping small children from falling off the staircase. These were turned for a private home and featured post-to-post connections with each newel extending below skirt with cap and finial as shown. The final product is stained by the contractor.

You end up with something that looks like this, minus the blue contractor’s tape. This was for the renovation of a basement stairway in Virginia. Some of the features were hand drawn by the owner of the house who was doing the renovations himself, and some were from our large catalog of moldings.

Don’t need the whole staircase, but want to spruce things up a bit? Try new caps to make the staircase appear new. Good Millwork can match existing caps or produce new ones chosen from our molding database.
